Clift Farm's Free Season Ends One Event at a Time, Starting With the Farmers Market

Clifts Cove sits just off Hughes Road, about 1.6 miles from Highway 72. At the end of that drive is Clift Farm and its Village Green, a lawn of about three-quarters of an acre with a stage. When it opened in 2025 it was billed as a place for music, yoga, storytime and community events. All of the programming there is free, and it follows a calendar with a hard edge. The Madison Record laid out the 2026 schedule in May and said the Village Green runs events "throughout the year (excluding winter months)."

That calendar doesn't shut down all at once. Each series has its own end date, and the first ones come up this month. As of October 12, every series is in its last weeks, and a few are down to their final dates.

The Order the Lawn Goes Quiet

The table below lists the remaining 2026 dates for each Village Green series, in the order they're scheduled to end. The details come from the Madison Record's season schedule and Clift Farm's own events page.

Series What's left in 2026 Hours Season ends
Yoga on the Lawn Select Saturdays in October 9 to 10 a.m. October
Farmers Market Tuesdays through October 4 to 7 p.m. October
Storytime on the Green Nov. 2 Check Clift Farm's calendar Nov. 2
1st Thursdays Art Walk Nov. 5 4:30 to 7 p.m. Nov. 5
Cruise-In car meet Oct. 17 and Nov. 7 9 a.m. to noon Nov. 7
Grooves on the Village Green Thursday evenings into November 6 to 8:30 p.m. November

The farmers market goes first, and it's the series with the most local names attached. It opened its 2026 season on May 5. Vendors listed so far include S & J Produce, Talley's Fruit Farm, Short Creek Homestead, Fleur De Lis Farm, Smith's Not Just Popsicles, McGee Plants & Produce, Rime Sorbet, Sauce Daddy and Sour Sister Bakery. Clift Farm's own feed also says the Farm Stand market runs every Tuesday from May to October. Clift Farm hasn't published a separate "last market" date. If the market keeps to that schedule, the Tuesdays left are Oct. 13, 20 and 27.

The Cruise-In gives you two more Saturday mornings. The Oct. 17 and Nov. 7 meets are the last two on the 2026 list, which started in March. Viewing is free from 9 a.m. to noon.

The Art Walk is a partnership with the Madison Arts Alliance, with live music while you browse work by local artists. Its last 2026 date is Nov. 5. Three days before that, on Nov. 2, Clift Farm's events page lists Storytime on the Green with the Huntsville-Madison County Public Library.

The Concert Dates Don't Agree, So Check Before You Bring a Chair

Grooves on the Village Green is the series where the published dates conflict. The Madison Record describes the concerts as running on the second and fourth Thursdays of each month, April through November, from 6 to 8:30 p.m., next to Chuck's Fish. By that pattern, the remaining dates would be Oct. 22, Nov. 12 and Nov. 26. Nov. 26 is Thanksgiving.

Clift Farm's own calendar, though, lists a Grooves on the Green concert on Thursday, Oct. 15, which is the third Thursday of the month. The calendar doesn't list the later dates as separate events. Until it does, the reliable facts are the 6 to 8:30 p.m. window and the spot beside Chuck's Fish. The @cliftfarmal Instagram account is the place to confirm a specific Thursday.

The holidays are also uncertain. Clift Farm announced its first Christmas Market on Oct. 2, 2025, and 256 Today reported it was set for Dec. 13 on the Village Green. As of this writing, the official news and events pages don't list a 2026 market or a tree lighting. A second year may come, but nothing has been announced.

The Restaurants on John Henry Way Stay Open Through Winter

The Village Green pauses for winter, but Clift Farm's restaurants and shops are indoors, and many of them are new. The roots go back further than the buildings. Clift Farm's history says four generations of the Clift family worked this land starting in 1850, with cotton farmed at the Homeplace.

The restaurants have filled in over the past year and a half:

  • Stoney River and Chuck's Fish were both open by July 2025. Drybar opened that June at 461 John Henry Way, Suite 1030.
  • Cooper's Hawk announced in January that its first Alabama location would open Feb. 9, 2026, at 8228 Highway 72 W.
  • Melt, at Suite 810, is the sandwich spot's second North Alabama location. Its location page lists hours, dine-in and online ordering.
  • Grimaldi's, at Suite 850, was reported open by 256 Today in May. The restaurant is 3,940 square feet, seats up to 179, and has a private party room for 40.
  • La Parrilla is still marked "Coming Soon" in Clift Farm's dining directory, with no opening date. Its planned address is Suite 1080.

Melt and Grimaldi's opened later than first projected. In July 2025, AL.com reported the developer's forecast of the first quarter of 2026 for both. Both were reported open in May instead. That record is a reasonable way to read La Parrilla's "Coming Soon" label: it's an intention, not a date.

The shops follow the same year-round rhythm. Mountain High Outfitters at Suite 340 stocks gear for camping trips, trail runs and morning walks. That matters more this month, because a new trail opened a short drive away.

The Trailhead That Opened on Oct. 2

Mill Creek Nature Preserve opened to the public on Friday, Oct. 2, 2026. The Land Trust of North Alabama called it the organization's 11th nature preserve, and WHNT covered the city and partner leaders who gathered to open it.

The first phase is the Balch Road Trailhead at historic Gray Cemetery. It has about a mile of trail through woods and along streams, just north of the Chelsea Park subdivision, and the trails are designed for all ages and abilities. The property was acquired in 2006, and Madison's comprehensive plan later named it a high-priority greenspace project. 256 Today reported that the Balch Road Trailhead is the first step in a larger project. Jim Chamberlain of Madison Greenways & Trails described it to 256 Today:

"Balch Road Trailhead at Mill Creek Nature Preserve provides a mile of gentle hiking trails suitable for all ages and abilities. Come out, hike the trails, and enjoy our beautiful woods and streams."

The trailhead also comes with local history. Gray Cemetery dates to 1822 and was part of the early Providence community. A Cumberland Presbyterian church once stood nearby. Volunteers have cleared the cemetery, restored markers and documented the graves, including those of early settlers and veterans, and 256 Today reports that work will continue as the preserve develops.

The opening materials don't include a street address, visiting hours or a dog policy. For directions, the trailhead is known as the Balch Road Trailhead at Gray Cemetery. Unlike the Village Green, it doesn't run on a programmed season, so it can carry an outdoor Saturday after the Cruise-In has had its last meet.

Where October's Last Weekends Go

Clift Farm's calendar is sparse for the end of October. Downtown Madison and Toyota Field fill those dates:

  1. Madison Witches Ride, Oct. 18. The ride runs 3 to 5 p.m. on Garner Street, with gates opening at 2 p.m. A block party follows at Home Place Park, 100 Shorter St., according to 256 Today.
  2. Celebrate Madison, Oct. 29. Gates open at 6 p.m. at Toyota Field. Toyota Field bills it as a free community event, and the event site promises a fireworks show after the main program.
  3. Downtown Fall Festival, Oct. 31. Main Street Madison's first-ever version runs 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Home Place Park, with retro games, food trucks and a bounce house. It's free.
  4. Toyota Field Fall Festival, Oct. 31. It runs 5 to 8 p.m., with trick-or-treating on the concourse and a showing of Casper at 6:30 p.m.

Because the downtown festival ends at 1 p.m. and the ballpark's starts at 5 p.m., you can go to both on Halloween. After that, the confirmed dates thin out. Toyota Field has posted Breakfast with Santa on Dec. 12 and a New Year's Eve celebration on Dec. 31, but times and tickets are still to come. Back at Clift Farm, the last firm dates are the Nov. 7 Cruise-In, whatever November Thursdays the concerts end up on, and the restaurants on John Henry Way, which stay open through the winter.

Watching Clift Farm fill in has been one of my favorite parts of working with families in Clifts Cove. Every new restaurant and every new mile of trail affects how people value homes nearby. If you're curious how this growth shows up in your home's numbers, Amanda Wasenius can help. Start with an instant home valuation, and I'm happy to go over the results with you, neighbor to neighbor.
